Pest Control and Extermination of Termites in Sydney

Termite control and Termite Extermination Sydney

Termite control and termite extermination can be achieved after an inspection has been completed as this would allow the timber pest inspector to explore the premises and best decide the most beneficial solutions to your premises as not all premises will be able to receive all treatment options due to environment e.g. construction methods, location, restricted access these are just some examples which would influence timber pest inspectors decision on what treatment method would work best.

TERMIDOR is the preferred liquid termiticide used by Innovative Pest Solutions in termite control and termite extermination. Termidor is applied as a treatment to the soil surrounding existing structures. Traditionally these types of applications are referred to as chemical barriers, although in the case of Termidor, the chemical does not act in the same way as many older chemicals. Rather than a barrier that repels termites, Termidor acts as a non-repellent treated zone, which allows termites to enter and therefore more efficiently kill. The reason for this is that Termidor is undetectable to termites. Termites will actually enter the treated zone, where Termidor binds to their cuticle. Once this has occurred, it is only a matter of time before they are killed. And time is not on their side. Termidor’s unique Transfer Effect ensures that the Termidor is passed from one termite to the next and as a result even termites that have not directly come into contact with the treated soil can pick up a lethal dose. Termidor showed control of termite activity, with an average of 4.3 weeks to achieve control. However, not only will Termidor kills termites that are present, it will also prevent concealed entry to structure for a minimum period of 8 years.

Monitoring and Baiting

This is another preferred method used by Innovative Pest Solutions. Nemesis is an Australian termite bait system designed to attract and eliminate termite colonies in a safe non invasive way. It uses an insect growth regulator (IGR), Chlorfluazuron, as the active constituent in the Nemesis bait. Active termites feed on the highly attractive bait food source & translocate the IGR to other members of the colony, at levels undetectable by those termites, until the colony collapses. If termites are found, Nemesis above ground stations are placed directly over the active areas; this engages the termites and results in faster colony elimination.
Otherwise, Nemesis inground stations are deployed around the perimeter of your home. Termite attractive timber inserts are placed inside these external stations and are monitored on a regular basis for termite activity.
Nemesis termite bait is a registered product under the requirements of legislation administered by the Australian Pesticides and Vetinary Medicines Authority. The system uses a number of unique stations for inground & above ground interception of active termites.

Different Types of Termites

Subterranean termites a brief understanding of different termites commonly found in Australia. If you suspect that you have termites it is essential that you don’t disrupt them, call for a termite inspection as any disruption can cause more problems when eradicating the problem.

Mastotermes darwiniensis

Occurring north of tropics of Capricorn, non mound builder, nests in trunks, root crowns of trees and stumps. Is the most destructive of the Australian species of termites  can cause large amounts of damage in short amount of time and will attack houses, buildings, bridges, post, poles, and many other plant and animal products.

Coptotermes species

Found Australia wide can be identified by soldier having mandibles present and the presents of a milky latex material called “exudates” from a pore on the head called the fontanelle. Mud packing workings of the termite are usually lighter then surrounding soils and some species will form sub nests within buildings e.g.  Walls but queen and her colony are not mobile. This is the most wide spread species.  Three main species in Australia are Coptotermes frenchi, Coptotermes lacteus, and Coptotermes acinaciformis.

Schedorhinotermes species

Occurring Australia wide have both major and minor soldiers with the species of intermedius, nests found in tree stumps, under houses. Colony partly mobile as queen can relocate; mud tubes are rather brittle unlike those of Coptotermes species.

Nasutitermes species

Occurring Australia wide both mound and arboreal nests builders. Soldiers have a head that is pointed unlike other termite species majority of this genus preferring hard woods, sub nests often formed by supplementary queens.

Microcerotermes species

Occurring Australia wide both mound and arboreal nests builders. Colonies are readily exposed often causing damage to deteriorated timber in contact with ground. Mound and arboreal nests appear the same colour as surrounding soil.

Heterotermes species

Occurring throughout Australia south of the tropic of Capricorn. Have several species one of which is Heterotormes ferox, this species does not build mounds but form small colonies adjacent to other termite species along tree stumps, logs and rooting wood.

Drywood Termites

Drywood Termites are able to infest and destroy structural timbers and joinery timbers as well as furniture. They are located mainly in tropical areas. Drywood termites don’t require water on source other then moisture in drywood and moisture in atmosphere

Dampwood Termites

Such as Porotermes adamsoni requires damp or decayed wood to start a colony. Small colonies in trees, logs and decaying stumps.
